The Tide
Duration 25:00
The Tide, for small choir (or ‘vocal band’), was composed in 2019. Over the last 25 years, I have written pieces based on the human voice, using pre-recorded speech samples from every day life combined with live instruments. Now it is time to explore the live human voice. The Tide contains grooves based on timbre, hoketus, canon, ground, chords, pulse et cetera. My musical creativity thrives on the interaction with musicians, discovering ‘unheard’ music together, through a process of trial and error. For The Tide, I am seeking small choral groups who are interested in exploring new ways of singing.
The Tide consists of short tunes, except Where I’m going, which is also a stand alone ‘independent’ piece. The order of the pieces is ad libitum and one can just pick from The Tide as one sees fit. Lyrics by: Shakespeare, St.Augustine, Dogen, Hoover and anonymous sources. Some tunes may even work better without words, using phonetics so we can explore the abstract ‘meanings’ of sound. For a quick impression, there is a simulation by virtual voices on my Soundcloud channel:
